We had a really nice Easter, even
though we tend not to make a big deal of the holiday. It’s a good excuse to do
things as a family, and we all end up having fun. We lucked out with the
weather, it was mild and sunny, so we could do things outside, including the
proverbial egg hunt. The night before R and I filled eggs with candy and then
it was my job to be up early enough to hide the eggs outside.
Even though the kids are getting
older, they still enjoy the egg hunt. Maybe it’s the quest for candy, but they
have fun with it together, and it’s nice that they still enjoy it before they
find it too boring and childish. Those days are on the horizon. After the egg
hunt, we had pancakes and sausage (from TG, no less), and then the plan was to
make Easter bread, dye eggs, and have supper.
The bread is a long standing
tradition in this house, and it’s really good. It’s your basic hallah bread,
though you can incorporate the dyed eggs into the dough. This makes it look
cool, though the egg dye runs into the bread, which makes it a little less
appetizing. We decided to forgo the eggs this time around.
At some point R needed butter and
milk for the recipe, so she and A walked to the store and N and I rode our
bikes. It was our inaugural spring bike ride to usher in the warmer weather.
Back at home, R and the kids went to work on the bread and eggs, and I took a
nap. They did a great job on both, the bread always looks impressive, and they
get creative and crazy with the eggs. I love to see what they end up doing.
By the evening, we were hungry and
it was time for supper. I had originally planned on salmon with baked sweet
potatoes, mesclun, and bread, but I thought we’d be snacking on bread all day
wouldn’t be hungry for supper. That turned out not to be the case, so by dinner
time, we were hungry. It was a massive piece of fish, nearly two pounds, so we
feasted like royalty. We have been on a mesclun kick, so that’s what the kids
wanted.
After supper, the kids ate Easter
candy and we watched a movie. It was a nice day, spent at home with the family.
Oh, did I mention that we skipped hockey for that day? I think that made R
happy.
Hope you all had a nice Easter,
and thanks for reading.
