In the interest of our kid’s health and our sanity, we had to bail out on social commitments and cement our place on the social loser list. We were invited several weeks back to attend a picnic at our friend’s house, E&MW. I’m guessing that they had just constructed a pizza oven that she had talked about in the past. Now that it was up and running, they wanted to have friends over for the inaugural firing, and were kind enough to invite us.
It was, however, an incredibly trying week, and the kids were battling colds and throughout it all, they still kept going. By the time the weekend came by, we were tapped out, and we really felt that we needed a little down time just to recover. Also, we haven’t had much family time with just the four of us.
In other words, we’ve become our worst suburban nightmare, over-scheduled with no time to spare. It’s crazy how thing spiral out of control. Either way, we had some things to attend to on Saturday, and at some point we decided that we just couldn’t go to the picnic. I had planned on calling EW to let her know, but then she actually called me to see if we were going to make it. I had to break the bad news to her, and she was understanding, but what could she say? I felt awful, and figured that she thought we were total losers for waiting until the last minute, but in all honesty, the kids were battling colds, and it was not a good time.
Sorry to E&M, but sometimes you have to do the unpopular thing in the interest of family and sanity. I need to come up with a way to make it up to them. Until then, thanks for reading, and thanks to Shuné Pottier for the pic.
