Christmas Tree

We seemed to have waited a bit too long to get a Christmas tree, so when we went to our usual location, it was slim pickings. They still had several trees, but they were a little “gangly” looking, not thick and lush, the way we like, like a nice Douglas fir. We knew the clock was ticking and at some point our source was going to sell out, so we decided to meet R there on her way to work and get the tree.

We go to Wright’s Mill, the same place I get our rough cut wood to do the framing on the barn. They do Christmas trees and always sell out. Their selection was thin, and I was tempted to go somewhere else, but the guy selling them (the owner’s son, a nice kid) was standing there, and I could not just pick and leave. Plus, he’s local, we need to support him.

So, we ended up buying a taller tree than usual, with the idea that we’ll cut it shorter and make use of the thicker top section. It worked out fine, and the kids couldn’t wait to start decorating.

For the record, they did everything. All I did was put the angel on top, but the put everything else on, and then they cleaned up (with a little prodding) afterward, because the living room was a disaster. I was so proud of them. We had a little drama with the lights, but that’s a story for another time.

For now, we can bask in the warm glow of our Christmas tree. Happy holidays and thanks for reading.
