Flowers for Mom

R likes to have some plants on the window sill by the kitchen sink, and there is a cactus that we inherited from Quechee and in the past there was a basil plant. Basil is only fleeting, so after it was gone, she mentioned she’d like to get something to put in there. I’d bought some mint from Stern’s and put a few sprigs in water, and lo and behold, they took off. Mint is a little scary in that way, so I’m not sure what to do with it from here, maybe put it in a pot for cooking purposes.

Either way, I naturally started in on a mission to find mom a plant, preferably something with flowers that will come back every year. Maybe that’s asking too much for such a small space. As luck would have it, I was at the library the other day and the Garden Club was selling some plants to benefit the library. There were some cool looking little flowers, and it turns out they were bulbs. They are called oxalis, and they suggest transplanting at some point into a bigger pot, but that they can survive as they are. Perfect.

R is into them, they have these cool little flowers, and they are in a small package, so they fit just right on the window sill. I love when things fall into place like that.

Until the next time, thanks for reading.
