We had supper the other night with our good friend HH, and
it was a nice chance to hang with friends and meet her new beau. JM and his
daughter N were there, as well. Plus, since HH and company are pretty dedicated
vegetarians, it was a chance to make and try new veg recipes. As much as we
love meat, it’s definitely interesting (and challenging) to make not just a
vegetarian meal, but a good one. At least one that the kids will eat, and
ideally enjoy. It’s tough to beat hamburgers, hot dogs, and pepperoni pizza.
The meal was nice as always, we are really comfortable and feel at home with HH and her circle of friends, which is extensive. She made this killer carrot quiche with celery bisque, and we brought along curried wheat berry salad along with chips and homemade guacamole. I have to confess, having small dinner gatherings with good friends is a lot of fun, especially with such cool and interesting people who all have such similar sensibilities (politics, parenting, lifestyle, etc). Plus, the kids are all good friends, so it’s a win-win situation.

After supper, we built a bonfire and the kids got to burn
stick and marshmallows. It was cool outside but dry and windy, so it was a
little precarious. We had to be careful, but it was still fun. I look forward
to the next one.
Until then, thanks for reading, and thanks to huhnphoto for the pic.
